The Last Glamazon Post

The final round of the 2009 WERA season took place the last Saturday and Sunday of October at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Classic Course. I took first place in the Women's Superstock race, which netted me a total of 134 points this season and the championship in that class in WERA West. Yay!

In the 600 Superstock class, I took 6th place in the race, which makes me 7th in the region this season. Not so freakin' bad.

But these results didn't come easy. In Saturday's 20-lap solo race I was hit by Charles Strong at the exit of Turn 5, which caused me to crash. Fairings, wiring, forks, swing arm are just a few of the bits that would have to be replaced to get the bike working again. With the help of the following people, it happened, I raced on Sunday, and my goal of racing a full season came to fruition thanks to them: The California Superbike School, particularly Keith Code, Dylan Code, Will Eikenberry, cornerworkers Joe and Michael Jabara, Tim Johnson, and James Toohey. For their mechanical help and psychological support: Krystyna Kubran, Corey Baum, Chris Sarbora, Bryan Galvan, Roger Martin and SoCal Supersport. My success is their doing.

Due to reaching my personal goal of completing a full season of racing, I'm both sad and happy to report that this will most likely be my last post to the Glamazon Racing blog. But fear not, I will still be highly active in motorcycle riding as a coach for the California Superbike School. Thanks for reading, supporting and riding.

Be a Cornerworker for MotoGP.

You see them on the TV during every GP, WSBK and AMA race. They're picking up Ruben Xaus after he does something like this. And most people I talk to have no idea how to become one.

It's cornerworking, people, and personally, I think it's the best way to see a race. Here are the top five reasons:
1. Accomodations are free, and not bad at that.

2. Those dorky vests get you access to practically anywhere.

3. You don't pay to get into the race, they pay you.

4. You can make friends with similarly minded (read: cheap) race enthusiasts.

5. You're practically the only people to get a 100% unobstructed view of the race action.

Best of all, they're still looking for workers for this year's July MotoGP at Laguna Seca. Want to sign up? Visit, download, apply: http://www.usarm.org/motogp.php

And I'll see you there.

Kawasaki Speed Test Ride with Jason Britton

Me, Jason Britton and David Kennedy rode the new 2009 Kawasaki ZX-6R up Highway 1 in Big Sur. Yup, just us three. And about 8 guys with cameras.

It will air this Tuesday 5/19 on Speed Channel at 7:30 PM (PST) after Superbikes. Tune in and see what a big dork I am in front of the camera!

An Article Published in the UK? Blimey!

That's right, people. My words are taking a first class trip on Virgin Atlantic to Great Britain. Upon arrival and after clearing customs, they will be featured in Streetfighters Magazine, quite possibly the edgiest streetfighter-centric motorcycle mag around. And undoubtedly the most daring as it comes to their models' wardrobes.

Sure, there are no nude ladies draped across the bike I was writing about (Miles Hanshaw's streetfighter based on a GSX-R1000) but surely this gorgeous custom bike plus my shaky grip on British slang will keep them glued to the page.

If you find yourself a copy, let me know what you think of it. I'd love the feedback.

I Say "Yes, We Have No Umbrellas"

Check your newsstand for the April issue of Motorcyclist Magazine, because in it, you'll find my most recent article.

Click on the image over there <-- for the first page excerpt, and a picture of yours truly. As you'll see, it's all about women in road racing, whether we should have our own all-women's class or not, and it puts the spotlight on WERA West's Women's Superstock Series (WSS for short). For those who might not know, I'm a racer there, so I have a little something to say about it.

If you don't have a subscription to Motorcyclist yet, the fine people on the interweb will be glad to help you get one: motorcyclistonline.com. And if that's not in the budg, then I strongly suggest picking up at least the April issue next time you're cashing in an old Christmas gift card at Barnes & Noble.

Much love and thanks for all your support.

Your Dose of Inspiration

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming 'Wow - what a Ride!" - Hunter S. Thompson

WERA Round 2

Las Vegas, Nevada

WERA West's Round 2 was held January 23-25th at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Classic Course. The last time I rode this track was Femmoto, 2007. And due to an LSAT diagnostic test Saturday the 24th, I wouldn't even be able to do a practice day on the track before my races Sunday. Insert own joke about "taking a gamble" here. But to my credit, I did try to jog my memory by watching some on-board camera footage of a guy racing there on Youtube.

After a restful evening at the high-class (cough) Four Queens casino, I came to the track ready to be pummeled. After all, no fortune cookie had promised ANYTHING about winning here. On the upside, I had taken my 2006 Kawasaki ZX-6R to Tige at Cyclemall/Catalyst Reaction in Tustin, California, and he straightened out my warped shift rod. Which resulted in, uh, a bike that shifted. Which came in handy for the two races that I registered for. I wanted to do more races that day, but with the looming deadline for my law school LSAT, I had to get back home for some brainy studying stuff.

WERA West Round 2 results are as follows:
Women's Superstock Novice - 1st Place
600 Superstock - 15th Place

I could go on again, but Roadracingworld.com does it for me:

An exciting wrinkle for the weekend was my brand-new competition in the Women's Superstock class: Nadine Lajoie (www.nadineracing.com), who invited me to join her and other women racers in a race a the LeMans MotoGP in mid-May. News about this, coming soon.

Look out for more racing action at WERA West Round 3: April 10-12 at Las Vegas Classic Course, Las Vegas, NV.
